Is pancreatic cancer the worst possible type of cancer? Why is it so terrible/terrifying?
I don’t know enough about all cancers to say that pancreatic cancer is the worst, but here are a few reasons why people think it is the worst:
It tends to be diagnosed when the cancer is very advanced, so there is often little time between being diagnosed and dying. When you are told that you have cancer and you have a few weeks to live, it is pretty awful.
When it is diagnosed, there is usually very little that can be done to treat it. Once it has spread outside of the pancreas, it is very difficult to treat and usually doesn’t respond well to any treatments.
